Arlyn & George’s Engagement 04.25.09

Wow.  George and Arlyn are a hot item.  They’ve dated for a number of years and will finally get hitch on May 15, 2009. Their first official date was on a yacht for the Prom in Junior High School. George also proposed while on a cruise to Ensenada.  So to complete the story of their love affair, we decided to hold the session at a local marina.

Check out  Mr. G Q.  Seriously, his full name is George Quintos.

George didn’t even realize that Arlyn placed the Sunflower on his ears.  He thought I was just taking a mug shot.

Kathryn & Tom’s Wedding 04.18.09

Florist:  Janet Webb, Greenwich Floral Design

DJ:  Steve Fisch, DJ Adjective

Cake: Katie Scott, Montecito Confections

Wow,  I had a blast at Kathryn and Tom’s wedding.  Everyone came to the wedding and reception ready to have fun and of course to witness the union between Kathryn and Tom :)

The story of how I met Kathryn is quite interesting. My cat, Misty, of 11 years fell seriously ill and I brought her to the local pet hospital.  I didn’t want to bring my beloved kitty to just any vet so I searched and read the reviews of all the vets within a 10 mile radius and decided on Dr. Scherer from the Warner Avenue Animal HospitalAddress:‎ in Fountain Valley.  Dr. Scherer was fantastic and is highly recommended by this pet parent. Well, the lady at the front office was Kathryn (she’s really a marine biologist and volunteers at the hospital) and she happened to be wearing a big rock on ring finger. We briefly spoke and I gave her my business card and went on my way to take care of Misty’s issues.  Kathryn calls me up about a month later and the rest is history, as they say…

Kathryn, wanted to make sure that we captured Tom’s expression when he first sees’ her book of boudoir images.  I think we all know what’s going through Tom’s head by the classic expression on his face.

Kathryn is quite the gifted bride. She made these cuff-links and many of the details captured throughout this wedding.

Wow, check out that rock by Tracy Allen Fine Jewelry, located at The Grove.  It’s a custom designed piece.

I absolutely adore this photograph of Kathryn at the bottom of the spiral staircase. I couldn’t have hoped for a better composition. The soft radiant light glowing off her gown and shoulders is perfect. We had just finished the getting-ready sessions and was heading to the lobby for some formals. I asked the wedding party to hold back a bit and had Kathryn walk down first and perform a little spin at the bottom. If I had to nit-pick, I would like to have liked to see that desk and notepad disappear.

According to Kathryn, she and her brother often fought as kids.  There are a few more consecutive action shots of their rock-paper-scissors game, and in every one that I captured, Kathryn had won! Better luck next time, Jeff.

The owner of this vacuum cleaner mysteriously disappeared while we were shooting. We had a bit of fun with the vacuum while the owner was away.

Life passing me by…

My wife and I headed out to Santa Barbara, CA for a little day trip.  My original intention was to scout the venues by myself for a wedding I’ll be shooting in two weeks there, but the weather was so beautiful that I decided to invite my wife along. The weather was pefect; it was a sunny and breezy 67 degrees outside. This is the kind of weather that attracts folks from all over to CA.

We stopped by the hotel that the Bride and Groom would be staying at. The hotel has a gorgeous lobby.

The balcony for the suites were quite sweet as well. The dark wood for the balcony immediately caught my attention.

Next, we drove to the Ricon Beach Club where the Reception would be held at. All the folks there were busy setting up for a wedding. Ashley, the coordinator was kind enough to take a few moments to show me around the venue a bit.

The actual wedding would take place on the beach. We were fortunate that people were already there preparing for a Ceremony.

I found a few great locations for photographs of the bridal party after the wedding ceremony. Right along side the rail road tracks are some beautiful wild flowers and a long wooden fence extending the length of the beach.

Okay, now here is the train that almost killed me! As my wife and I reached the tracks, we heard the train and felt the rumbling of rocks and pebbles on the ground. I look to my right and see nothing, I look to my left and still don’t see a train. At this point I’m still cautiously walking towards the tracks, all the while thinking if there really is a train coming. When I was about  4 feet from the tracks, my wife says “hey, look, it’s coming real fast from the right”! I stop in my tracks. Pun intended :)   It must have only been about 1 second from the time I first saw the train to when it came barrelling down the tracks 4 feet in front me. I stood there frozen in place thinking “oh shit, that was close!” My next thought was to take a picture since this was the closest I’ve ever been to  a moving train.  Am I crazy or what?!
